I posted this for Thanksgiving on another blog but I think it's a great recipe so I post it here as well!
Almost Turkey Day!
Are you all ready for Thanksgiving? To tell you the truth I'm not. I'm actually far from ready and decided to be lazy this year, just make beans, mashed potatoes and buy a chicken. This year it's about quality time as a family. Not about cooking all day!
However I wanted to share the best turkey recipe I've ever made with you!
Ingredients
1 (12 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1/2 cup butter, cubed, salt and pepper to taste, 2 apples, cored and halved, 2/3 (750 milliliter) bottle champagne.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Rinse turkey, and pat dry. Gently loosen turkey breast skin, and insert pieces of butter between the skin and breast. Place apples inside the turkey's cavity. Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Place turkey in a roasting bag, and pour champagne over the inside and outside of the bird. Close bag, and place turkey in a roasting pan.
- Bake turkey 3 to 3 1/2 hours in the preheated oven, or until the internal temperature is 180 degrees F (85 degrees C) when measured in the meatiest part of the thigh. Remove turkey from bag, and let stand for at least 20 minutes before carving.
It's so simple you won't even believe it. You can also add some garlic pieces, cut them in slices and after cutting a little hole in the skin put it under the skin. Cut up some celery, carrots and apples stuff it with them. Orange juice - I use fresh squeezed - adds a great flavor to it.
If you would like to get a recipe for cranberry relish or any of the other good thingy's I make for Thanksgiving write it in the comment and I would be happy to share it with you.
Thank you to allrecipies.com for making this a wonderful blog today!
